Florida Keys Family Photos

We have been photographing families since 2017 and have learned so much along the way. We wanted to create a resource for our clients to provide them with the most helpful information in one place. This includes links to our popular guides on what to wear to photo sessions along with helpful tips to prepare you for the session, and our popular download and printing guides.

FAQs:

What should we wear to the photoshoot?

We wrote a comprehensive blog that goes over color palettes, how to coordinate clothing, different materials to wear, and other helpful tips for choosing the best clothing for a session in the Florida Keys. Be sure to check that out here.

How should I prepare for the session?

We simply ask that you show up with an open mind and do not be afraid to be yourself at the session! We also wrote a blog on other tips to help you prepare for the session. Be sure to check that out here.

How long will the photoshoot take?

Our sessions vary in length depending on how many people attend the session. They typically range between 20-75min. For our small groups of 1-6 we always like to book a 30-35min time slot. Sometimes if the session is flowing and everyone is cooperating they can finish in as early as 20min but I love having the extra time just in case.

Over the years we have quickly learned that kids usually only have a sweet spot of 20min of cooperation at sessions so we try to make the most of that. Think that is too short? Not to worry! We are very fast paced photographers and are able to capture a little bit of everything from posed to candids photos in that time frame. Still unsure? Check out our family blogs to get an idea of what a session with us would be like.

Our larger groups of 7-12+ range between 40-75 min depending on how many people attend. They are very similar to our small families just with more people to photograph. The sessions rarely take the full length of time but again, it is always great to have extra time allotted just in case. You never know when clients will run a little late or when a toddler will throw a tantrum.

Where will the photoshoot take place?

The session will likely take place near where you are staying. If you are at a resort we will shoot on property and if you are at a vacation rental we will shoot at a nearby local beach.

How many images can we expect and when do we receive them?

Small family galleries usually have ~135 photos and large families usually have ~175. Each gallery will have a little bit of everything from posed to candid shots and pretty much every combination you can think of. The photos will be ready to view within 10-12 days after the session date.

How are the photos delivered and can we download/Print them?

We deliver the photos in an online gallery that allows you to view the images and select your favorites to purchase. You will also have the option to download and print photos directly through the gallery for any images that you purchase. We have also wrote in depth guides on how to download and print the images if needed.

Are deposits refundable?

Deposits are non-refundable and do NOT apply to the portrait package pricing. This fee secures the reservation date and time and covers the preparation and coordination of the session. However, if we have to cancel due to an emergency we are more than happy to offer a refund.

When do we pay for the remainder of the photoshoot?

We require a $100 fee to book the session date and time. Beyond that, you do not owe anything until after the session. Roughly 10-12 days after the session date we will send you an online proofing gallery. That is where you will select the photos you would like to purchase. Once finished, we will send you the invoice for the amount selected.

Who will be taking the photos?

We are a husband and wife photography team. I (Kaite) do all of the photo sessions and most of the client communication. Austin focuses mostly on final edits and more work behind the scenes. In the near future we hope to hire an associate to help take on clients when we are booked but have not done so yet :)

What happens if there is bad weather?

The two biggest concerns for weather in the Keys are Wind and Rain with wind being the most common issue.

Wind - If it is windy it simply means changing the location to one that offers more protection. Occasionally the wind will be over 20/25kts, in this case there is not much that can be done and we will likely have to change the session date.

Rain - Thankfully, it is rare when it rains all day. Our rain storms usually last anywhere from 5-60min. This means we might have to move the session start time by an hour or so to accommodate. It is rare when we have to change the date altogether.

Worst case scenario and we have to change the date for either weather concern, I will try my best to offer another session time slot on a different date.

What if my child is not behaving?

Our sessions are designed to be fast paced and fun. This makes them feel more like playtime than a photoshoot. This allows us to get the kids to engage and not have time to think about what they are doing. If they show up in a sour mood do not worry! They usually end up having a great time!
